The electricity distribution and supply sector has undergone a significant change. From June 2023, ‘Nama Electricity Distribution’ (NEDC) and ‘Nama Supply’ (NSC) replaced Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC), Majan Electricity Company (MJEC), Mazoon Electricity Company (MZEC) and Tanweer (Rural Areas Electricity Company).
energypeople was commissioned by the new distribution company to audit the range of performance indicators that are reported the Regulator – the Authority for Public Service Regulation. The audit covered six main areas:
- Security of Supply Audit: technical verifications of the data related to the Security Capacity and Peak Demand for the Primary Substations;
- Customer accounts per feeder and Quality of supply indicators: verification the customer connectivity model, confirming the accuracy of the model at the range of voltage levels including the links between CRM and GIS and links to SCADA, where applicable, for maintaining real time / near real time connectivity;
- Quarterly quality of supply returns, review and validation;
- Customer Service KPIs: meter reading, new connections and customer complaints, audit;
- Guaranteed standard of service report, audits;
- Meter reading and Billing, audit of compliance with Ministerial Decision (1/2021) reports.
Our report covered the early period of 2023 during which four companies were extant and from June when the new, consolidated company took responsibility. Recommendations for improvements were an integral part of the output. We are grateful to the team at NEDC for enabling such a detailed and complex audit to be completed successfully to a very tight timetable.
